(6 customer reviews)

Fast-acting, high-performance calcium chloride de-icer for snow, ice and black ice, without the drawbacks associated with rock salt. ICE MELT generates heat on contact with moisture to accelerate melting, provides up to 7–10 m² coverage per kg and forms a long-lasting brine that helps prevent refreezing for several days.

10x more effective than rock salt

Does not re-freeze for several days

7–10 m² effective coverage per kg

Exothermic reaction releases heat to melt ice fast

Leaves less residue than salt/grit

Considerably less corrosive than traditional rock salt

High Performance De-Icing Without the Drawbacks of Rock Salt

ICE MELT is a high-performance calcium chloride de-icer designed for the rapid treatment of snow, ice and black ice across commercial, industrial and public spaces. When ICE MELT comes into contact with moisture, it begins to dissolve and generates heat through an exothermic reaction. This actively accelerates the melting process while forming a concentrated brine that lowers the freezing point of water and helps prevent the treated area from refreezing. The result is faster de-icing, longer-lasting winter protection and significantly greater coverage than traditional rock salt.

Where can ICE MELT be used?

ICE MELT is designed for commercial, industrial and residential outdoor environments and is particularly suited to:

Car parks
Pedestrian walkways
Factories & warehouses
Loading areas
Entrances & exits
Roads
Stairways
Access ramps
Commercial premises
Industrial sites

Surface suitability: ICE MELT is suitable for most hard surfaces and is designed for industrial, commercial and residential environments. Sensitive surfaces should be tested before widespread application.

How much ICE MELT do I need?

ICE MELT provides an effective coverage of approximately:

7–10 m² per kg
Typical treatment coverage

That means approximately:

12.5 kg
87–125 m²
Typical coverage
25 kg
175–250 m²
Typical coverage

How Does ICE MELT Work?

Traditional de-icing products work mainly by dissolving into surface moisture and lowering the freezing point of water. ICE MELT uses calcium chloride, which adds a second mechanism that helps accelerate the de-icing process.

1

It attracts moisture

Calcium chloride is highly hygroscopic, meaning it readily attracts and absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment. This allows the de-icing process to begin quickly when ICE MELT is applied to snow, ice or a damp surface.

2

It releases heat as it dissolves

As calcium chloride dissolves, it releases heat through an exothermic reaction. This localised heat helps weaken the bond between the ice and the surface beneath it, allowing existing snow and ice to break down more rapidly.

3

It forms a low-freezing-point brine

As melting continues, the dissolved calcium chloride forms a concentrated brine. This brine has a much lower freezing point than water, helping suppress the formation of new ice and protect the treated surface against refreezing.

Why this matters:
ICE MELT remains effective at much lower temperatures than rock salt. The resulting brine can also remain active on the treated surface for an extended period, helping reduce repeated applications during prolonged cold weather.

ICE MELT vs Rock Salt

Issue Traditional Rock Salt ICE MELT
Melting speed Slower action Up to 10× faster
Coverage Approx. 1 m²/kg 7–10 m²/kg
Refreezing Frequent re-treatment is required Brine can remain active for several days
Surface impact Corrosive and abrasive Less corrosive than sodium-based rock salt
Concrete Repeated salt / freeze-thaw exposure can contribute to deterioration Fewer freeze/thaw cycles reduce impact
Indoor residue Salt and grit can be carried through entrances on footwear and wheels Cleaner application with substantially less material required
Impact on metals Sodium chloride is highly corrosive Less corrosive, although prolonged metal contact should still be avoided
Extreme cold Performance falls significantly as temperatures decrease Suitable brine concentrations down to -30°C

How do I apply ICE MELT?

ICE MELT can be applied manually or using standard spreading equipment, making it suitable for everything from small entrances and walkways to large car parks and industrial sites.

By hand or spade

Ideal for smaller areas such as entrances, steps, pathways and access points. Spread a light, even layer across the affected surface. Please wear gloves if handling directly.

Handheld spreader

A handheld or push spreader provides faster, more consistent coverage across larger pedestrian areas, walkways and smaller car parks.

Mechanical spreader

For roads, large car parks, loading areas and industrial sites, ICE MELT can be applied using larger mechanical or vehicle-mounted spreading equipment.

For best results:
spread ICE MELT as evenly as possible across the area being treated. Avoid excessive application.
